In short
You would listen to real radio conversations between pilots and air traffic controllers and write accurate transcripts. This work helps train AI systems to understand aviation communication. If you have worked as a controller, your everyday knowledge is the main skill needed, and no AI experience is required.
What you will do
- Listen to real radio exchanges between pilots and controllers and write accurate, well-structured transcripts.
- Pick out key instructions such as headings, altitudes, frequencies and clearances.
- Use airport diagrams, approach charts and live aircraft positions to clear up unclear or noisy audio.
- Meet a strict accuracy target, such as a word error rate of 2% or lower.
- Take part in feedback and review rounds to improve your transcripts over time.
What you need to apply
- Current or past certification as an air traffic controller (tower, approach, center or ground) is preferred.
- Strong English, both spoken and written, with good knowledge of aviation phraseology.
- Ability to understand many accents, including those of international pilots.
- Reliable internet, a quiet workspace and good headphones.
Who can apply
Applications are open from anywhere in the world, as no country restriction is stated. The role is remote and works on a freelance contract.
My tip
Show your controller background clearly in your application, and mention your attention to detail and your comfort working independently with strict guidelines.
