In short

This full-time role asks materials science experts to help a leading AI lab make its models reason better about real materials work. You would be paid 70 to 110 USD per hour. It may suit you if you hold a PhD and have spent years in practical materials research.

What you will do

  • Check the quality of materials science answers and tasks, and spot reasoning that sounds right but is actually wrong.
  • Write instruction guides and model answers that define what a correct response looks like.
  • Design hard materials science tasks and tests to measure whether the AI is really improving.
  • Work with the research team to keep standards consistent and turn expert judgment into clear rules.

What you need to apply

  • A PhD in materials science, materials engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 4 years of real research or industrial R&D work in materials.
  • Clear specialization in at least one materials area, with a senior-level track record.
  • Excellent written communication and the ability to give precise, well-structured feedback.

Who can apply

Residents of the US may apply, and the work is on site. This role is hybrid, so you must live in the Bay Area, California, and work on site with the client's team several days a week when required; if you live elsewhere, you must be willing to relocate there at your own cost, as no relocation help is given.

My tip

Before you apply, check that you can live in the Bay Area, since this job is not remote and we want you to be sure it fits your life before you start.
