In short
Mercor works with an AI lab that wants to train its models on legal reasoning. In this remote freelance job, you read pairs of motion briefs from the same case and judge which one is stronger. It may suit US lawyers who have worked in federal court and enjoy careful, detailed reading.
What you will do
- Read two motion briefs from the same case and pick the stronger one, explaining your reasons.
- Score each brief on a set of defined quality points.
- Mark legal, factual, citation and drafting errors directly in the brief PDFs.
- Attend a short onboarding session before the work begins.
What you need to apply
- Be admitted to practice in at least one US state, with an active bar membership.
- Have 3 years of US litigation practice, with substantial federal court experience.
- Hold a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Write clearly and pay close attention to detail.
Who can apply
This job is open to residents of the US who are lawyers with at least 3 years of experience. The work is remote, paid as a freelance contract.
My tip
Clear your schedule before you start, because you must finish all the required reviews and the project depends on every attorney completing the full set. We suggest you read the requirements closely before applying, since the bar membership and federal court experience are key.
