Energy & Utilities Regulatory Attorney
- Contract: Contract
- Who can apply: United States
- Posted Oct 22, 2026
In short
This freelance role at micro1 asks energy and utilities lawyers to help train AI systems for a customer. You do not need any AI experience, because your knowledge of energy law is what matters most. It may suit you if you have spent years advising utilities, power producers, or energy regulators.
What you will do
- Give expert legal analysis on energy and utility questions, such as rate design, tariff structure, and compliance duties.
- Work through realistic regulatory cases based on FERC, state PUC, and ISO/RTO practice, and explain how you reached each conclusion.
- Point out questions that are unsettled, disputed between jurisdictions, or that depend on facts that could change the answer.
- Check other contributors' work for legal accuracy and clear reasoning, and flag confusing scenarios to project coordinators.
What you need to apply
- A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active U.S. bar admission.
- 4+ years of hands-on energy and utilities regulatory practice, not only supervisory or loosely related work.
- A corporate law background, ideally built at a Vault 100 firm.
Who can apply
This role is open to residents of the US who hold an active U.S. bar license. It is a remote freelance contract, and 5 openings are listed.
My tip
Before you apply, prepare clear examples of your rate design or compliance work, because the screening questions and the AI interview are how the client judges your expertise. We suggest you practice explaining your reasoning step by step, since that is a key part of the work.
