Music & Sound Annotation Expert

In short

This remote freelance role asks you to listen to short field recordings and write down exactly what you hear, from instruments and tempo to background sounds. Your trained ears are the main tool here. If you know music or sound well, this could suit you, and the pay is 30 to 45 USD per hour.

What you will do

• Listen to short field recordings and note which instruments are present, plus the tempo and key.
• Mark the times when background events happen, such as traffic, sirens, or applause.
• Compare two recordings of the same song made in different places and note what changed.
• In later phases, check AI descriptions of clips and mark what is correct, wrong, or invented.
• Join a paid onboarding session and a short weekly sync.

What you need to apply

• At least 3 years of hands-on music or audio experience.
• Strong listening skills, so you can pick out single instruments in noisy, real-world sound.
• Ability to estimate tempo within a few BPM and identify musical key, with a reference being fine.
• Comfort with detailed, repetitive work in a web platform and clear written English for short notes.
• Quality headphones, a quiet workspace, reliable internet, and availability of 20, 25 hrs/week.

Who can apply

This role is open worldwide, with no country restriction stated. Students may apply, but you still need at least 3 years of experience.
