In short
You would help shape how advanced AI models reason through physics problems. The work depends on your scientific judgment, so it suits physicists with a PhD and real research experience. The pay is 90 to 140 USD per hour on a freelance contract, and you can work fully remotely.
What you will do
- Check physics tasks and AI answers for mistakes in calculations, weak shortcuts, and errors in units or limiting cases.
- Write clear problem statements and careful reference solutions that follow how real physics research is done.
- Design hard, research-level problems and test sets in your own area of physics.
- Work with researchers from nearby fields to turn expert instincts into clear rules that others can learn.
What you need to apply
- A PhD in physics, astrophysics, applied physics, or a closely related field.
- A senior research role, such as faculty member, principal investigator, or senior scientist at a university, national lab, or research organization.
- Deep specialization in at least one area, such as condensed matter, quantum physics, or astrophysics.
- A strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Awards and fellowships are a plus.
- Hands-on experience with large language models, and the ability to spot a flawed argument that sounds convincing.
Who can apply
This role is open only to residents of the US, and you must be based in the United States. It is offered as a freelance contract, with 10 openings.
My tip
Lead with your specific area of physics and a short list of your strongest peer-reviewed papers, since we look for proof of real specialization. Show a clear example of how you use AI tools in your research to stand out.
